The swirling banks of fish on this design echo the rhythm of marine life in the Mediterranean, home to over 17,000 marine species, many of which exist nowhere else on Earth.

But beneath its beauty lies a serious issue: the Mediterranean holds one of the highest concentrations of microplastics in the world, with up to 1.25 million plastic fragments per square kilometer. Coastal development, overfishing, and pollution put immense pressure on this delicate ecosystem. Fish populations are in decline, and iconic species like the loggerhead turtle and Mediterranean monk seal are now endangered.
